BARBARA FITZPATRICK
A Chicago artist, Fitzpatrick spent the summer of 2002 on a construction site of the University of Chicago campus. The site, surrounded by the gothic towers of the Chicago Theological Seminary and Rockefeller Chapel, as well as Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, provided a contrasting backdrop for images of Manitowoc cranes, construction workers, drill rigs, and trucks.
Both Fitzpatrick’s construction paintings and still life paintings provide a framework for her to explore the dynamic quality of light as it underscores form. Her interest in ways that sculpural forms push on each other, impacting the space that they share, finds its expression in the imagery of slowly moving cranes on a dense site, as well as in the more conventional relationship between still life objects.
Fitzpatrick recently exhibited her paintings in two solo shows at Prince Street Gallery, New York, and Artemisia Gallery, Chicago.
